IMPOSTER SYNDROME IS RUINING YOU
Hello everyone
Welcome and welcome back to the blog. So today we will talk about imposter syndrome, some of us may have an idea what it is, but some don't and the funny thing is we all go through that at some point or throughout our lives for some, but we dont know what it really is. But no worries which ever category you fall in i'm here to give you the real gist yunno!!!
WHAT IS IMPOSTER SYNDROME?
Imposter syndrome is the persistent inability to believe one's success is deserved Or has been legitimately achieved As a result of one's own effort or skills.
Impostor syndrome (also known as impostor phenomenon, impostorism, fraud syndrome or the impostor experience) is a psychological pattern in which an individual doubts their skills, talents or accomplishments and has a persistent internalized fear of being exposed as a "fraud".
WHAT IMPOSTER SYNDROME LOOKS LIKE
- Feeling like success is impossible.
- Feeling incompetent despite demonstrating competency.
- Feeling like a fraud.
- Fear of not meeting another person's expectations.
- Feeling like past successes and hard luck were only due to luck.
- Feeling uncomfortable with receiving praise or congratulations.
- Feeling in capable of performing at the same level all the time.
- Feeling disappointed over current accomplishment.
- Feeling constant pressure to achieve or be better than before.
- Feeling doubtful of sucesses.
These are all what imposter syndrome looks like and I believe we've all had it one time in our lives. If you had it once or twice it is actually okay but when you constantly feel this, it is ruining you!!!!
We've all had experience with imposter syndrome and I will like to share mine with you all, but it will make this blog so long. So I will just focus on what imposter syndrome is, and we will talk about our experiences later in another blog in Shaa Allah.
WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF IMPOSTER SYNDROME?
From my research, I found five (5) types of imposter syndrome, and they are;
- PERFECTIONIST;. The perfectionist represents a person with imposter syndrome that strives to be their absolute best, no matter the cost to their mental health. This individuals maybe identified as typical "perfectionist" who set impossibly high standard for themselves.
- THE SUPERWOMAN;. The superwoman represents a person with imposter syndrome that struggles with work addiction. This person may feel inadequate relating to colleague and continue to push themselves as hard as possible regardless of consequences on their physical, mental and emotional health.
- THE NATURAL GENIUS;. The natural genius represents a person with imposter syndrome that not only struggles with perfectionism, but also set out to achieve lofty goals On their first try. These individuals feels unworthy, guilty and shameful if they can not easily complete a task or achieve a goal on their first Go.
- THE SOLOIST;. They represents a person with imposter syndrome that has extreme difficulties asking others for help, perhaps they may think that others are not competent as themselves or that they must prove their own worth through their productivity.
- THE EXPERT;. This represents a person with imposter syndrome that necer feels good enough despite being extremely knowledgable. The personay feel like they are les experienced than their colleagues if they do not know an answer or have knowledge on certain topics.
The reason why imposter syndrome sucks is because it is holding you back from sharing any good news or achievement
Despite all your achievements you will want to attach yourself with just one negative person opinion I know we all are about that your opinion doesn't matter but in reality we all hold on to people's opinions of us.
One of us may have fallen into one category or two of these types and it isn't good it is ruining any ounce of happiness you have left, you always feel like a fraud when in reality you work hard enough to earn what is yours. You will always feel like if someone was there you wouldn't have gotten to where you are. Thoughts like are harmful detach yourself from them.
It is very okay to think, but analyse the thoughts, take the good ones and detach yourself from the negatives.
